Am Sonntag (08. Juni) wurden in der Radio City Music Hall in New York die Tony Awards 2014 vergeben und alles was Rang und Namen in der Broadway-Szene hat, tummelte sich auf dem Red Carpet. Der ein oder andere durfte sich sogar zu den glücklichen Gewinnern des Abends zählen.
„How I Met Your Mother“-Star Neil Patrick Harris gewann den Preis für seine Hauptrolle in „Hedwig and the Angry Inch“. Das Stück holte sich noch den Sieg in drei weiteren Kategorien, die Ausbeute war bei acht Nominierungen also richtig gut.
Drei Tonys gingen an „A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder“, das seit 2013 am Walter Kerr Theatre am Broadway läuft. Es wurde unter anderem als bestes Musical und für die beste Regie ausgezeichnet. Auch Bryan Cranston („Breaking Bad“) gehört zu den glücklichen Preisträgern. Er wurde bester Hauptdarsteller für seine Rolle in „All the Way“. Cranston spielt darin den früheren US-Präsidenten Lyndon B. Johnson.
Durch den Abend führte Frauenschwarm Hugh Jackman, der bereits zum vierten Mal die Veranstaltung moderierte.
