„Star Wars: The Force Awakens“ hat ohne Zweifel die besten Chancen, bei den diesjährigen Saturn Awards so richtig abzusahnen. Mit 15 Nominierungen ist der Kinoerfolg von J.J. Abrams der Topfavorit.
Daisy Ridley und Harrison Ford sind als beste Schauspieler im Rennen. Als beste Nebendarsteller sind John Boyega, Adam Driver, Carrie Fisher und Lupita Nyong’o nominiert. Auch für die beste Regie, das Drehbuch und den Schnitt hagelte es Nominierungen.
Weit abgeschlagen, aber dennoch gut dabei sind „Mad Max: Fury Road“ und „Crimson Peak“ mit jeweils neun Nominierungen. Sieben Stück gingen an das Dinospektakel „Jurassic World“.
In der Sparte TV ist die Zombieserie „The Walking Dead“ mit sieben Nominierungen am besten aufgestellt. „Game of Thrones“ bekam fünf, „Wayward Pines“ vier.
Mit den Saturn Awards werden seit 42 Jahren die besten Science Fiction, Fantasy- und Horrorfilme ausgezeichnet. Kritik gibt es hin und wieder dafür, dass man sich nicht auf die Kernkategorien beschränkt, sondern zum Beispiel auch Thriller und Abenteuerfilme mit einschließt. In diesem Jahr passen der Oscarfavorit „The Revenant“ mit Leonardo DiCaprio und das Bergsteigerdrama „Everest“ nicht so richtig ins Gesamtbild.
Die Preise werden im Juni im kalifornischen Burbank vergeben.
