Chris Pine sowie die Regisseure Alfonso Cuarón und J.J. Abrams verlasen die Oscar-Nominierungen im Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills. Zum ersten Mal wurden alle Nominierten in den 24 Kategorien live veröffentlicht.
„The Grand Budapest Hotel“ und „Birdman“ sind jeweils 9 Mal nominiert. Meryl Streep ist zum sage und schreibe 19. Mal im Rennen, während Bradley Cooper zum dritten Mal in Folge als bester Schauspieler vertreten ist.
Vergeben werden die Preise am 22. Februar 2015 in Los Angeles. Alle Gewinner werden von den etwa 6.000 Mitgliedern der Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) gewählt. Die Moderation der Academy Awards übernimmt diesmal Neil Patrick Harris, der die Nachfolge von Ellen DeGeneres antritt, die im letzten Jahr wirklich grandios durch den Abend führte und sogar ein Rekord-Selfie knipste.
