Die Nominierungen für die GLAAD Media Awards 2016 sind draußen! Mal wieder handelt es sich um eine bunte Mischung aus Film, Fernsehen und Journalismus und mit „The Danish Girl“ und „Carol“ sind gleich zwei Anwärter auf einen Oscars nominiert.

Zum ersten Mal dabei ist in diesem Jahr Caitlyn Jenner, die für ihre Serie „I Am Cait“, die ihr neues Leben als Frau zeigt, nominiert ist. Miley Cyrus geht mit ihrem Album „Miley Cyrus & Her Dead Petz“ in der Kategorie „Oustanding Muusic Artist“ ins Rennen.

Sarah Kate Ellis, Präsidentin von GLAAD, erklärte in ihrem Statement, „Beinahe drei Jahrzehnte lang haben die GLAAD Media Awards die Inklusion in den Medien vorangetrieben und die Akzeptanz für LGBT [Lesben, Schwule, Bisexuelle und Transsexuelle] vorangebracht. Die diesjährigen Nominierten haben die Messlatte nach oben geschraubt, was das Erschaffen von rücksichtsvollen und vielfältigen Bildern und Geschichten von LGBT angeht. Sie haben das Verständnis der Zuschauer für LGBT Leute vertieft und die Akzeptanz auf der ganzen Welt vertieft“.
